A recent research poll conducted by Holiday Mate revealed that older customers also known as ‘silver surfers’ make up a large percentage of customers who are booking holidays to Turkey online through the use of the latest gadgets and gizmos.
Yes, the techno savvy over 50’s are browsing online using gadgets such as iPads and smart phones to shop online and book last minute holidays to Turkey and other sun filled destinations such as Spain and Greece.
Regardless of age, it seems that holidaymakers worldwide refuse to board the plane without having all the latest technology in tow.
The most common gadgets and gizmo’s that make it into holiday suitcases bound for Turkey holidays are iPads, smart phones and Kindles.
In fact, 28% of the poll respondents pack laptops, 24% take a smart phone to keep in touch with family and friends while they are away, and 14% pack a Kindle to stay entertained during their journeys. These gadgets (laptops, smart phones, and iPads) are helping 31% learn more about the nation they are visiting, which may not be very good news for tour guides.
The recent poll also revealed that the majority of customers aged 50 plus prefer to book getaways online on the first Saturday in September. This happens to be the first weekend after kids in the UK head back to school after the summer break.
So it seems that even though holidays are meant to be a time to switch off from everything and indulge in a spot of relaxation. Many choose not to ‘completely’ cut themselves off from the outside world as they clutch their Kindles and surf on smart phones.
